Nowhere for recycling to go!

The trouble we are having at Western is that we cannot get our local recycling company to take our recycling! They will take aluminum only. They say their facility cannot handle the quantities of plastic, glass, or paper the university generates. So basically, even if we can get folks to recycle, there's no place to take it. Any ideas?

Alright guys, the time has come to begin the discussion!!!

We'll start with some general brain storming:

First, give us your definition of sustainability.

Second, come up with and post three ways in which college campuses should be involved with sustainability, either on campus or in the community.

Then, come up with a question to ask the other student summit bloggers, just like I did. Your question can be anything, and as broad even as "What do you think the main focus of our summit should be? ie sustainability on the campus, or in the community, or in curriculum, or all three, or something else, etc." or "What do we want to call our final product-thingy: Manifesto, List of Demands, List of Principles, something else, etc, etc?"

You get the general idea. This is just to get some creative juices flowing and get the ideas moving.

So:

1. What does the word "sustainability" mean to you?

2. What should the role of college campuses be in fostering sustainability? (3 ways)

3. Come up with your own question for brainstorming.

You can just click "comments" and then "post a comment" to this post to answer the first two, but click "new post" in the upper righthand menu to create a new thread for the new question you come up with. That way, people can respond to and discuss that question in separate threads.

If at all possible, try and do this by midnight of Monday (2/26) night. Obviously, there is no penalty for failing to do so, but the blog will work much better if people are blogging on it! :D

Just an Idea

I was thinking that we should host an Inconvenient Truth house party at the summit this year, or host one sometime this semester for the students at EKU. Al Gore himself has been traveling to different places around the country and giving quick presentations to the other presenters who will be showing it in their assigned area. We don't have to do all that but...It would be great to show the film a few times before the summit so that we could get more people interested and more people attending.
